Scholarship Recipient Makes the Grade with Tiger Band

Andrew Pate is one of the three lucky LSU freshman from Georgia that received financial aid from LSU Atlanta's Scholarship Endowment Fund in 2012. To say he's making the most of it is a resounding understatement.

One reason Andrew desired to go to LSU was to be a part of the Golden Band From Tigerland.  The drummer originally was told that his favored line position (quads) were filled, but that tryouts would be held for bass drum.  Andrew took the leap of faith, enrolled at LSU and was rewarded with membership in the LSU Tiger Band.

Sweet Send Off 2012: Young Tigers Meet and Greet Before Going to LSU

Approximately 104 students from Georgia high schools will be entering LSU this fall.   LSU Atlanta hosted more than 25 of these students from the metro Atlanta area at our 5th Annual Sweet Send Off reception, which was held this year at North Atlanta High School.  The excited young Tigers, most accompanied by interested parents and friends, took advantage of this opportunity to meet each other, hear about LSU from current and former students and to be "welcomed into the LSU family" by several chapter board members and volunteers.

Several special guests from Baton Rouge also created even greater impact on the event.  Assistant Vice Chancellor of the Division of Student Life and Enrollment Darrell Ray. Dean Gaines Foster and Jill Roshto from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sarah Courtney from Manship School of Mass Communications all gave their perspectives and tips about the LSU experience to the eager listeners.

Each of the new freshmen introduced themselves and expressed why they chose LSU.  A majority of them (and their parents) noted that LSU was very inviting and friendly and that they felt welcomed with their campus visits and contacts with LSU.  The LSU Atlanta alumni chapter reflected this spirit of hospitality with the Sweet Send Off and invited family members to not be strangers and to join us at our view ins and events.

2009 Scholarship Recipient Writes Us a Letter

Alexis Rook, one of our two LSU Atlanta Scholarship Endowment recipients for 2009, sent us a letter recently to share her experiences and gratitude for the scholarship support.  If you wonder why almost everything we do is focused on scholarship fundraising this letter should provide illumination and inspiration.  Some excerpts:
