King Cake Super Party Announced Feb. 2

King Cake Super Party

Saturday, February 2nd    1 – 3 pm
Copeland’s of New Orleans (Cumberland location)
RSVP Events@LSUatlanta.com

As with the past few years, Mardi Gras is coming early – Feb. 12th to be exact- so options for when to have our annual King Cake Party were limited.  The best date we have is the day before the Super Bowl, so plan to come out Saturday, Feb. 2 to help us get into the Carnival spirit with music, food and fun!

Because of our great dues paying member support, LSU Atlanta can offer this party at NO CHARGE as a way to invite everyone to come out and meet the 2013 board and to hear about all of our plans for the coming year.  Everyone who attends gets a hunk of King Cake and a ticket for a drawing for great door prizes from Community Coffee and Tigermania. (Kids are welcome, but only adults get a prize ticket.)

While this is a free event, we do ask that you RSVP to Events@LSUatlanta.com if you plan to come with how many will be in your party so we can plan to have enough cake for everyone.  And since this is an LSU theme event, feel free to invite other LSU fans but please help us keep this a purple and gold event with LSU friends and family.

Copeland’s will have their full bar and food menu available to make your New Orleans style experience complete!  Once again, Copeland’s will be a Champion Sponsor for LSU Atlanta in 2013 and we thank them for their continued support!

To All Active Dues Paying Members of LSU Atlanta:

Former LSU Teammates Wow Crowd at Kickoff Event

LSU Atlanta and the TAF Georgia chapter hosted a very entertaining kickoff party at Buckhead Saloon on August 27.  No less than FIVE former Tigers who were teammates during the Jerry Stovall and early Bill Arnparger coaching years spent nearly an hour swapping stories and talking about LSU football.  In the process, we raised over $1,400 for Great Cats of Indiana and also auctioned off autographed photos of Miles, Chavis and Kragthrope and will donate over $200 to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Research Foundation. A BIG thanks to everyone who showed up, and those of you who didn't missed a GREAT show.

Former LSU Players, Sports Writer Featured at 2011 Kickoff Party Sat. 8/27
Get ready for a special afternoon of Tiger football talk and other activities at our 2011 Kickoff Party to be held at Buckhead Saloon (3227 Roswell Rd.) starting at 3 pm Saturday, August 27th.  The gathering, a joint effort of LSU Atlanta and TAF Georgia Chapter, will include informal football talk/Q & A with former LSU football players and sports media representatives, video features, Tiger Prize Patrol raffle and a Silent Auction with some great LSU collectibles and merchandise.  Admission is FREE!

Scheduled to participate to date are:

Liffort Hobley was a celebrated defensive back for LSU in the early ‘80s and was part of that vaunted Bayou Bengal defense that humbled Alabama in 1982, holding them to no first downs in the first half on the way to a 20 - 10 win.  Hobley, who now resides in Ft. Worth Texas, was selected all-SEC 1983-84 and went on to play eight years in the NFL for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins.  We are fortunate that we found out Liffort would be in town and he is excited to come share his memories and thoughts with us.

Curt Gore and Jeff Fordham both played for LSU as offensive guards from 1982-85 and earned letters while blocking for Dalton Hilliard and Garry James a/k/a "The Dalton James Gang."  Gore  lettered all four years and was selected All-SEC in his senior year.   Both men live and work in metro Atlanta now and are eager to talk about LSU football.

Watch some highlights of that 1982 Bama beatdown here, one of the great games in LSU history. Bear Bryant proclaimed that it was the worst physical beating any of his teams had sustained and shortly later announced his retirement.

Melvin Richey played on the defensive line from 1999 - 2002 and is a Decatur, Georgia native who played at SW DeKalb High School.  After his playing days he returned to this area and currently is a co-defensive coordinator and D line coach as well as a teacher in Newton County.  We'll ask Melvin about the transition from Gerry Dinardo to Nick Saban at LSU.

Kirston Pittman holds the distinction of being the only LSU player to have National Championship rings for both 2003 and 2007.  In 2003 the defensive end earned Freshmen All-SEC honors from the Sporting News and was named honorable mention Freshmen All-American by College Football News.  Pittman redshirted after missing the entire 2005 season with a foot injury and then missed all of 2006 after tearing an Achilles tendon during an offseason workout. He got a sixth year of eligibility and  in 2007 he started all 14 games and had 68 total tackles (29 solo) with 12.5 going for losses and 7.5 sacks. He also intercepted a pass. Yet another injury cut his NFL run short after one season with the St. Louis Rams, but Pittman persevered and played this spring for the New Orleans Voodoo in arena football.   Read on...
