Help LSU Atlanta support Big Brothers and Big Sisters

Tiger Fans,

The chapter received the following information from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, and we are seeking a volunteer from the chapter to help organize a group for this event. If you are interested, please contact chapter president Steve Ory here: http://www.lsuatlanta.com/contact

First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kristin Garcia and I am the new Special Events Manager at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. More specifically I will be working directly with the Bowl For Kids Sake program. We are kicking off a brand new "Collegiate Alumni Challenge" to benefit the children of Metro Atlanta and would love for the Atlanta LSU Club to get involved!

In this "Collegiate Alumni Challenge", local university alumni clubs would wear their colors and fundraise in the name of BBBS of Metro Atlanta. I have attached our flyer for the event along with a coordinator packet which explains a little more about the program, Bowl for Kids' Sake 2008. The bowls typically take place at Midtown Bowl. The basic concept is that Atlanta LSU Club would rally together into teams of 5 and fundraise a minimum of $300 per person or $1,500 per team. Proceeds from Bowl for Kids' Sake allow us to match trained mentors with youth in the community. One match requires about $1,500, and with over 1,000 children on our waiting list, each donation helps. Therefore, through your organization's participation, each team that reaches their goal of $1,500 will place one child with a mentor.

To help you reach your fundraising goals, we will provide fundraising tools and any assistance needed. With our customized fundraising website, donating is as simple as making an online purchase. BBBS staff will coordinate the bowling event and support participants every step of the way to ensure you have successful event.

As our thank-you to participants, BBBS hosts bowling parties at Midtown Bowl with two complimentary bowling games, a DJ, chair massages, prizes and more. This is a great way to relish in the company of fellow Tigers, enjoy a day of bowling, all while raising money to help children in the Atlanta community.

I would love to in touch with some of the interested board members to see if we can sign LSU up with a team or two for this challenge. The bowl will be on November 8th at Midtown Bowl from 10-12. We will have other schools out with their colors and will have ESPN showing on all of the TV's so it will be a great "tail gate" atmosphere. As I mentioned before, all proceeds go towards matching "littles" with qualified "bigs" in the Atlanta community. I look forward to LSU's participation in this great event.
