Wow!  FIVE 2009 LSU Football View In Locations Announced!

Addition of Gwinnett, Cobb and Newnan Locales Provide More Tiger Fans More Choices

As promised, LSU Atlanta has responded to the long time requests for more convenient options for our members to meet and enjoy Tiger Football together. We had to investigate dozens of leads and have found five situations spread around metro Atlanta that met our requirements and want to partner with the chapter. Here they are, more news to come as the season approaches!

DOWNTOWN – Front Page News, Little Five Points

This will be the headquarters for our In Town Tigers subgroup designed for people who live inside the Perimeter and celebrate the “in town lifestyle” of Atlanta. Front Page News is upgrading their video and audio capabilities and offer drink specials to better serve us. How about having a live band playing La. style music after a game or two? We’ll see…

NW ATL/COBB - Copeland’s Famous New Orleans Restaurant and Bar, Cumberland at Cobb Parkway

Copeland’s of Atlanta is excited to be a new Champion (top level) sponsor of LSU Atlanta and part of that partnership is to welcome LSU fans as royalty to watch Tiger Football on a big screen in their lounge area of the Cumberland location. They already host Saints fans for NFL games on Sundays so they are ready and able to transform the room into a Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium atmosphere. There will be drink specials and giveaways all season, and of course the menu is perfect for the Tiger palette.

GWINNETT – Sidelines Grille, Old Peachtree at Satellite Blvd.

Sidelines is a cozy casual restaurant/sports bar that is very convenient to Gwinnett, just west of I-85 off  Old Peachtree exit at the corner of Satellite Blvd. and right in front of Home Depot. They have the capability to run separate audio between the bar and dining area so we can have our own designated viewing place every week. Steve and Jessica are not from Louisiana but know the fame of LSU fan spirit and are ready to offer bar specials and make everyone feel welcome. (Their Web site is being reconstructed this summer, we will provide the link when it becomes available again.)

NORTH FULTON – Buffalo Wild Wings, Mansell Rd. Alpharetta

This location debuted last year and was actually the “test case” for expanding game viewing locations in Atlanta. Even with the unfortunate disappearance of LSU’s defense and the gift interceptions leading to losses last year, we still saw enough turnout and fan spirit to show that LSU fans wanted and would support places closer to where they live. BWW staff loves Tiger fans and the atmosphere is fan and family friendly.

SW ATL – Newnan Tigers Football View Ins (John Hoth, Chairman)
Who are the Newnan Tigers? John Hoth is a dedicated Tiger fan who has recruited several LSU families to gather in a host home for tailgate cookouts on LSU game days. They have had as many as 50 people at past events, and welcome other Tiger fans who live in the area to join them. Everyone brings a covered dish and their own adult beverages. Since the arrangement is working just fine as it is, there was no need to find a business partner. The Newnan Tigers are now an official subgroup of LSU Atlanta’s and will conduct fun-draising activities to help our scholarship endowment fund.   To find out schedule and locations for their gatherings, email John at hothjf@gmail.com

All of the restaurants have agreed to provide all LSU games on a big screen TV with game audio, and will be donating a portion of all food and beverage sales by LSU fans to LSU Atlanta. All locations are open to families. There will also be a door prize given away every week at every location that any adult Tiger fan who shows up will be eligible to win. There will also be food and drink specials that will vary by location.

TIGER PRIZE PATROL – Instead of having an additional fundraising activity at every location every week, we will now feature one View In location per week to be visited by the TIGER PRIZE PATROL with an enhanced list of Tiger gear and gift certificates as incentive for your participation. Again, everyone who comes gets one free ticket for the drawing at halftime.

LATE KICKOFF FOR WASHINGTON - The Sept. 5 opening game against the Huskies will kick off at (egad!) 10:30 pm Eastern.  As of now all locations will still offer the game and stay open late if necessary.  We will post any new information as it becomes available.

RIO NOTE: We feel compelled to state clearly again that LSU Atlanta will have NO further association with Rio Grande Cantina in Buckhead.  Your Chapter Board decided in January to discontinue the relationship for several very good reasons.  They have since aligned with the Vol alumni so please pass the word about all of our other locations to your friends.

LSU Atlanta is committed to our twin missions of providing more and better social activities for LSU fans in our area as well as robustly building our scholarship endowment fund. Our credo is “If You Build It, Tiger Fans Will Come” and you proved us right with a record attendance and nearly $7,000 in net proceeds at our crawfish boil this year. With multiple locations we may not have as many fans at each place as we had at one single location, but we will have far more Tiger fans overall joining their neighbors to root for the Tigers.

Please help us grow by planning to attend view ins in your area and telling all of your LSU fan friends too!

“BAND TOGETHER ATLANTA FOOTBALL KICK OFF PARTY"
Saturday, August 29, Noon- 3 pm
Copeland’s Restaurant (Cumberland)

If you came last year, you know how much fun this event was. Band Together Atlanta is a cooperative effort of LSU Atlanta and Tiger Athletic Foundation’s Georgia Chapter and is part of the effort by the Tiger Nation to raise needed funds to complete the LSU Tiger Band Hall construction project.

The event will feature DVD and music presentations as well as special guest speakers, including sports writer Ray Glier, who wrote the recently-released book "What It Means To Be A Tiger" with a foreward by Les Miles. A raffle and live auction will be held to benefit the Tiger Band Hall fund. The Cumberland location of Copeland’s provides a comfortable and convenient place for us to party in a promising new season of LSU Football. Mark the date and watch for full details coming soon!

Marlow House at Marietta Square

“Sweet Send Off” is a dessert reception hosted by LSU Atlanta for high school graduates registered to attend LSU in the fall to meet and network with one another and hear stories and advice from LSU alumni. Their parents and family members are also encouraged to attend so they can be welcomed and have a “support group” locally that they can connect with.  Prizes will be drawn for the incoming freshmen. Desserts this year will be provided by generous sponsors like Copeland’s, Catered Cakes, New Orleans Fine Catering and The Royal Sweet. Yummmm!

You are welcome to attend, but we ask for your RSVP so we can properly plan for dessert needs. Please email events@LSUatlanta.com to RSVP.  Marlow House information HERE.
