Guide to the SEC Championship Weekend

The Greater Atlanta Chapter of the LSU Alumni Association will once again welcome the Tigers to our city for their fourth SEC Championship Game appearance of the decade. Here is our guide to Atlanta for Tiger fans as LSU prepares to face Tennessee at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Join Tiger fans and the LSU Atlanta Chapter on Friday and Saturday at Rio Grande in Buckhead. Rio Grande (3227 Roswell Rd, 404-237-5020, www.riograndeatl.com) is the official home for LSU Football in Atlanta. Buddy Songy of 1210AM in Baton Rouge will broadcast his show on Friday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. On Friday night Rio will host an SEC Championship Pregame Party featuring a Zydeco band at 9 p.m., a special Cajun menu, $2 Abita beer and no cover charge. If you don't have tickets for the game, head to Rio Grande on Saturday for the official LSU Atlanta view-in party of the SEC Championship Game with a DJ and LSU Band music. On Saturday night Rio has a postgame celebration planned for Tiger fans with a live Classic Rock band, Cajun food and $2 Abita beer.

LSU Atlanta at Gibney's Pub in 2003Gibney's Pub (231 Peachtree Center Ave NE, 404-688-0928, www.gibneyspub.com) will host Tiger fans in Downtown Atlanta from Thursday-Sunday. Located at Peachtree Center and connected to the downtown hotels such as the Hyatt and Marriott, Gibney's Pub is near the Peachtree Center MARTA station and within walking distance from the Georgia Dome. Party till 3 a.m. on Thursday and Friday nights, or stop by starting at 11 a.m. on gameday. Gibney's Pub will feature Abita beer and football on all their plasma screens and will be open till 3 a.m.

On Friday night, LSU Atlanta will show the folks in orange how it's done at Park Tavern (500 10th St NE, 404-249-0001, www.parktavern.com) in Piedmont Park. Buddy Songy will broadcast his SEC Championship Preview Show from 8-10 p.m. ET. Park Tavern will feature $1 Guinness drafts and music by Atlanta's top DJ. A $5 cover includes a Pastalaya buffet prepared by Catering Cajun. Park Tavern is located at the corner of 10th and Monroe, a short cab ride from the hotels in Downtown and Midtown.

The LSU Alumni Association and the Traveling Tigers will call the Marriott Marquis home for the weekend. Stop by to stock up on Tiger gear, as LSUAA will have merchandise for sale in a suite at the hotel.

Looking for a taste of home? Depeaux in Decatur and Henry's Louisiana Grill in Acworth both feature authentic South Louisiana cuisine imported to the area from Louisiana natives.

Stop by Depeaux (404-474-2591, 303 E. Howard Ave, Decatur, www.thedepeaux.com) for lunch or dinner and say hello to Bill and Peggy Sharkey, former owners of the Colonel's Club and Southdowns Lounge in Baton Rouge. Depeaux is located a few miles east of Downtown Atlanta and walking distance from the Decatur MARTA station. You'll know you've found the right place if you see the LSU baseball and football championship posters on the walls.

Chef Henry Chandler's Louisiana Ooh La La! and other signature dishes make it worth the drive up to Historic Downtown Acworth. Henry's Louisiana Grill (770-966-1515, 4835 Main Street, Acworth, www.chefhenrys.com) will feature drink specials for the game on Saturday and will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Opening soon: "Henry's Uptown" a premier venue above the restaurant for private events serving 25-150 guests.
