Academic Recruiting Reception in ATL March 17 - RSVP Now
Georgia is one of the more active states for sending great students to LSU. To underscore this fact, next month LSU’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid will host an exclusive reception where top academic students from the metro area can meet various representatives from LSU’s academic colleges and departments. The recruiting folks in Baton Rouge would love to have some Atlanta alumni on hand to mingle and share stories and encouragement with the student candidates. Here’s the details:
An Evening With Louisiana State University
Wednesday, March 176:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Nelson SE Operating Company (Architects and Interior Designers)
1349 West Peachtree Street NE, Suite 1300
LSU requests that you make an RSVP as space is somewhat limited. For additional information and registration, email Christopher B Henry at chenry@lsu.edu
LSU Baseball: Wallpaper and Crawfish Boil Auction Item Sneak Preview
The Defending National Champion LSU Baseball Tigers (makes you feel proud all over again, doesn’t it?) have begun their 2010 campaign and this year’s team has the talent and coaching to make a serious run at a repeat performance.
In a Georgia connection, Augusta resident Alex Box, namesake nephew of the LSU war hero, was invited to be on hand for the first game of the season last Friday, where a commemorative presentation was held with Alex and other family members after the 3rd inning of LSU’s win over Centenary. The opening day was the 67th anniversary of the date that Alex Box was killed in action in World War II.
SNEAK PREVIEW- Our Augusta friend Alex was also invited to throw out the first pitch for the inaugural game in the new Alex Box Stadium in 2009. The mojo must have worked because our diamond Tigers went on to win it all. Here’s the scoop: Alex came to our Atlanta crawfish boil last spring and presented LSU Atlanta the INAUGURAL FIRST PITCH BALL and insisted that the Georgia alumni use it to raise money for our Atlanta scholarship endowment fund!Since that time, we have obtained the autographs of both national champion coaches Skip Bertman and Paul Mainieri to go with Alex’s signature. This ONE OF A KIND collector’s item will be auctioned at our 2010 Crawfish Craze on Saturday, May 8th at Lake Allatoona! To ensure this rare item earns its true value, LSU Atlanta will offer online advance bidding for the baseball. The highest advance bid will become the starting bid price at the live auction.
We will also have a Paul Mainieri signature LSU baseball in our Silent Auction plus LSU Baseball champions fan gear will be given away in our raffle courtesy of our sponsor Tigermania.net.
We are humbled and honored to have been presented with this baseball and cannot express enough our gratitude to Alex Box for his friendship and support. Watch for full details and the opening of bidding in March! Meanwhile, to get you into the spirit, LSUsports.net has posted LSU Baseball wallpaper art for your PC. Check them out and download here:

Rescheduled Mardi Gras event in Roswell Saturday
We want to share news about a rescheduled Mardi Gras promotion being offered by Da Cajun Kitchen in Roswell this Saturday. Chef Demietriek Scott reports that he was involved in a car accident in New Orleans recently and hurt his back. Because of this there was a brief period when the restaurant was closed and he had to postpone his Mardi Gras party. Thankfully Scott is doing better and the kitchen is cooking again – now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (closed for dinner on Mondays). Being a New Orleans native, Chef Scott still wants to have his party even if Fat Tuesday has passed. Saturday’s event features a seafood boil starting at noon, live music kicking off at 4 pm and other specials on the menu. Abita Beer trinkets will be among the giveaways. Kids can even decorate their own Mardi Gras coconuts! Info at www.dacajunkitchen.com or call 770-642-6400.
Here’s hoping for a full recovery to our friend Chef Scott.

2010 Membership Renewal Reminder: Are You In?
Beginning January 1, 2010, the LSU Atlanta Board decided to change our membership renewal process that will benefit everyone in the long run. We have upgraded to an automated membership renewal process that will easily handle payments and will generate a friendly reminder notice when your renewal time comes up. We will continue to accept both pay pal and check payments.
Membership will now be on a year to date basis. For example, if you or your family renew or become a member in January, your membership expiries the following January; if you renew in April, your membership expires the following April, etc.
This change takes affect for this year so you need to renew to get into our new system and be eligible for benefits like our Members Only drawings. However, to allow people time to renew and become current members again we are basing our Members Only Drawing for January and February on our 2009 and current list.
THANK YOU for your patience and commitment to our chapter. LSU Atlanta’s recent growth and increase in events and activities have been made successful because of your dedication and support through membership. We would also like to thank Jeff Diecks for making this process and other technological capabilities effective for our chapter.
Crawfish Guide Coming Soon
We have sent requests to our sponsors who offer crawfish in any form to share information that will help you get your mudbug fix this spring. We hope to have it ready to go next week so look for it coming soon.
Also, make sure to Save The Date for our annual ”Crawfish Craze in Red Clay Country” coming Saturday, May 8th to “Bayou Allatoona.” This year’s boil picnic will be even better than last year’s acclaimed party. Watch for details coming soon!
