LSU License Plates in Georgia Campaign - Get Yours Now!

LSU Eye of the Tiger Specialty License Plate from the State of Georgia

UPDATE 1/24/12: We have submitted our manufactuing payment and applications to begin the production process.  We are being told it will likely be a few more weeks to get everything prepared for distribution. Please do not call or go to the tag office - all orders still have to go through LSU Atlanta for some time to come.  If you have not signed up yet to get a plate, please read the information and pay your manufacturing fee as instructed below.

We will send out notification to all applicants soon about when to expect the state to have plates ready.  Please be patient during this setup process!

A heartfelt THANKS to the heroes who donated extra, from $50 to $3,500,
to help get this program qualified.  We couldn't have done it without you!

Please refer to the FAQ's below to answer your questions as the board does not have the resources to respond to everyone personally and individually. As much as we would like to spend time with everyone it is not feasible due to the size of this undertaking.

Since we incur a service charge for receiving money through Paypal, we must add a 4% convenience fee to $25 plate orders to cover that cost of online payments. LSU Atlanta does not make any money off the extra dollar charged. If you are in a position to donate to the fund and you are not interested in obtaining a plate, you may do that as well. Every Tiger fan in the state of Georgia thanks you for your generous donation.

In addition, you can directly impact the success of the program by helping us with getting the message out to your friends and family who might be interested in the program.

Please note: Our email address for all inquiries and responses is now licenseplate@lsuatlanta.com.

FAQ:

1. If I made a $25 or $50 payment/application in the past, will I get a license plate?

There is no difference between what we are doing today versus what we did since the beginning with regard to the money. We were always collecting a manufacturing fee. The only thing that has changed is the state has become more flexible in how we go about collecting it. Everyone has to pay the manufacturing fee, even if you wait until they become available at the tag office.

The extra $25 fee collected for selecting a low number (1-100) is a fee imposed by the State and they call it a low number fee. When you reserve the number with us you have to pay $50=manu. fee + license fee.

Therefore when you go to the tag office be prepared to pay the $35.00 specialty tag fee and a $20 license registration fee. If your Ad Valorum taxes are due you will have to pay that as well. Make sure to bring your insurance card that has your VIN number on it.

When you return to renew your license plate, you will need to pay the specialty tag fee and the license fee.

2. If I pay $25 will I get a license plate?

No. You will need to go to the tag office in your area to get the plate once they are stocked. You will need to pay a specialty tag fee of $35. plus any other fees/taxes that are due. It is possible that the tag office might not have the plate in stock so you will pay $1. for them to mail it.

3. If I make a general donation, will I get a license plate?

Once the tag office is stocked with the new plates, anyone can purchase a plate. The donation is really a true donation towards the $25,000 manufacturing fee. Without paying this fee, the state would not begin production. This is state law and all groups have to comply. Also keep in mind that the purpose of the forms we used  previously and today was to show the state we have that amount of interest and to make sure that if we did not achieve the $25,000, we could refund money. If you do make a donation, you can divide it up such that $25. is a manufacturing fee and the remainder would be a donation.

4. Where and how do I get my license plate?

You would follow the same process as before. For detailed information, please copy this link and put in your browser:

http://www.dds.ga.gov/rules/rules.aspx?chap=375-2-2&rule=375-2-2-.05&head=375-2

5. When will the license plates become available?

Please keep in touch by subscribing to our newsletter, we have plans for a huge announcement.

6. How can I get one of the plates with numbers 1-100?

There is a form on the website for you to fill out. Please state on the form what the money is to be used for. Also on the website is a list of already reserved numbers. We will try and update this daily but can't guarantee that. Please also keep in mind that there is a low number fee of $25.00 we give to the state.

7. Do I have to live in Georgia to get one of these plates?

Yes. You must be registered in GA. and have insurance on the vehicle.

8. What is the manufacturing fee?

See number 1 above. Also please see the list of current specialty tags already in production. We will be on this list soon enough. By the way, there is no way to avoid paying the manufacturing fee since if you are not on the list we give to the state, you will pay the manufacturing fee at the tag office.

9. If I paid in the past do I have to pay an additional fee to get my plate?

You will need to pay the license registration fee, taxes if due, and a specialty tag fee of $35.

10. What will happen if I do not prepay the manufacturing fee?

If the plate becomes available and once we have 1000 applicants, you will pay a manufacturing fee at the tag office when you submit your request. You don't become exempt by waiting until the state starts the process of manufacturing the plates. One other caveat is that once we have submitted the $25,000 and the low number monies, you will still need to request registration forms from LSU Atlanta until we reach 1000 applicants.

10. Do I get anything if I make a donation to this cause?

A huge thank you from all the LSU Fans in Georgia as well as the LSU Alumni Association, which is following this program closely, and the admissions office who believe this will help get the LSU brand into the minds of students and parents interested in LSU. If desired your name can be submitted to the state with your donation amount.
