Hey Tiger Fans,

LSU looks for a repeat of the 2003 season when they visit Columbia, S.C. this weekend. The eventual national champions followed up a tough '03 loss to Florida by finding themselves on the road against South Carolina. The Tigers hope to create similar momentum on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN against the Gamecocks.

Join the LSU Atlanta Alumni Chapter on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET for the official LSU-South Carolina view-in party at Rio Grande Cantina in Buckhead. Rio Grande Cantina (3227 Roswell Road, 404-237-3227) serves as LSU Atlanta's weekly destination for football games in the fall. Also, new for 2008, Buffalo Wild Wings in Alpharetta (2375 Mansell Road, 678-352-4599) has been added as a Northside view-in location.

Can't make it to Columbia for the game? Join us for a taste of Tiger Stadium in Atlanta at Rio Grande Cantina or Buffalo Wild Wings in Alpharetta.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING RECAP: The LSU Board of Supervisors' October meeting featured a welcome of the university's newest faculty member as well as an update on the damage incurred by the campus during Hurricane Gustav.

E. Ward Plummer, one of world's leading physicists and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, was presented to the board along with a team of colleagues by Provost Astrid Merget as part of LSU's Multi-Disciplinary Hiring Initiative.

"Simply put, he is a world-class scientist who will bring enormous credit to LSU," said Merget.

Chancellor Michael Martin and Assistant to the Chancellor D'Ann Morris also briefed the board on the university's performance during Hurricane Gustav, and the storm's impact on the campus.

"I doubt there's a university anywhere that could have responded as well as our people did," Martin said, also thanking predecessor Sean O'Keefe for establishing the university's Emergency Operations Center.

Overall, LSU suffered $11.1 million in damages during the storm, with the university's Student Recreation Complex suffering the most damage.

Martin also provided a written report to the board's Academic and Student Affairs, Achievement and Distinction committee on the final enrollment numbers for the university.

The board also voted to again defer the selection of the next chair-elect until its December meeting.

Other actions approved by the board include:

* A recommendation to approve a small capital project for the renovations of the LSU Law Clinic. The clinic will renovate 4,900 square feet of offices, conference rooms and interview rooms.
* Degrees to be conferred on candidates for graduation at December commencement exercises on LSU System campuses.
* The establishment of the Judge Earl E. Veron Endowed Professorship at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center for $120,000.
* A novated license and royalty agreement between International Mezzo Technologies Inc. and LSU.
* Amendments to the contracts of LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri and track and field coach Dennis Shaver. Mainieri's annual salary increased from $450,000 to $525,000 annually, along with other increases and postseason bonuses. Shaver's annual compensation increased from $175,000 to $190,000.

LSU GEORGIA PLATES: The LSU Atlanta chapter is now accepting applications to have special LSU plates manufactured by the state.

Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner Bart L. Graham has approved the LSU Atlanta Alumni Chapter's request for special interest or commemorative license plates in the state of Georgia. We have until April 24, 2010 to collect 1,000 pre-paid applications for the plates. If we reach 1,000 applications, the state will begin production, and LSU can join Auburn, Florida and Clemson as out-of-state schools with Georgia plates.

With the Tiger football team treating the Georgia Dome like their home field (6-1, three SEC titles) -- and thousands of LSU alumni and fans across the state -- the LSU Atlanta chapter figured it was time we have our own Georgia plates, too.

Details on how to apply for a plate, and a downloadable application, can be found at lsuatlanta.com:
