Amanda with Coach Les Miles
The following letter was sent to Laura Jones, past President of LSU Atlanta, from Amanda Perrilioux, our 2008 Atlanta scholarship recipient.
Ah, to be a college student again!
Dear Mrs. Laura,
Hello! I’m just writing to thank you all again for awarding me the LSU Alumni Scholarship in 2008 and to let you know how the last semester of my freshman year went. I had a great time this past year and can’t imagine having gone anywhere else so thank you all for helping make this possible! This past semester flew by so quickly! I learned a lot of things that for some reason I didn’t pick up on my first semester such as one cannot rely on finals to boost grades, slacking off lowers your grade no matter when you do it, (so can’t slack in the beginning, the middle, or the end) you have to work, work, work. If I had known this (or even thought about it) I would have gotten A’s in at least two of the classes I got B’s in (too late now I guess =]). I also learned that walking a mile and a half to my classes everyday in the cold is not my favorite thing to do (though I suppose I prefer walking in the cold to walking in the extreme heat of August =]). I had some really wonderful teachers this year such as Dr. Jacob Berman (my fiction teacher who also happened to be extremely attractive and intelligent) and Mr. Michael Katchmer (my Roman History teacher (very funny and interesting)). My first year GPA=3.1! Obviously not the best, but for freshman year I think I did pretty well! =]
Well it sure is great to be home again. There is no denying that with every year of school down, three months of having absolutely nothing to do is needed =]! I’ve been home since May and have been spending time with my mom and my friends. I also attended the LSU Tiger Tour, that you all so kindly invited me to, where I got to take a picture with Les Miles and hear him talk about our lovely football team and the upcoming season (GEAUX TIGERS!)! It has been a great summer, exactly what I needed after all that hard schoolwork =]. I’ve been working at Chick-fil-a in order to earn some money, (which I’m trying to save for when I return to LSU) hopefully this will be my last summer there—my plans for next summer are to find a local publishing company where I can intern or be a secretary (cross your fingers for me, please).
Next semester my classes are going to be English 2000 or Introduction into Short Story Writing, Introduction into Writing Poetry, Astronomy, Economics 2030, and Sociology! I’m super excited about Astronomy because not only is it an interesting topic, BUT, it will be the last science I have to take…EVER! =] So I’m sure you understand my excitement. I also am really looking forward to Short Story Writing however I’m still on the waiting list for it (I was fourth but now I’m first! I need a lot of crossed fingers, guys!). Well folks, that’s all I’ve got to say! Other than of course thank you so very much again for helping me attend this WONDERFUL school! Nothing beats LSU and I look forward to seeing all of you guys at future LSU Alumni Events (such as the sweet send off party in August which by the way I might add my boyfriend is attending as well!)! Have a great day and thanks again for everything!
All my gratitude,
Amanda Perrillioux
