LSU License Plates: Update and How to Get Yours

Georgia LSU License Plate

As of June 21, 424 Georgia resident Tiger fans have now prepaid to reserve their LSU license plate.  The numbers are rising again, but we need 1,000 prepaid orders to start production and the clock is ticking.  PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TO APPLY!.

Last June, Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner Bart L. Graham has approved the LSU Atlanta Alumni Chapter's request for special interest or commemorative license plates in the state of Georgia. We have until April 24, 2010 to collect 1,000 pre-paid applications for the plates. Applicants do not need to be an LSU alum. If we reach 1,000 applications, the state will begin production, and LSU can join Auburn, Florida and Clemson as out-of-state schools with Georgia plates.

All money collected resides in an escrow account so you will either get a new plate or your money refunded.  We need EVERYONE to help spread the word to LSU fans all over the state to reach our goal.

HOW TO APPLY:

1. Print and complete an Application (click here to download)

2. Write a Check to: Louisiana State University Atlanta Alumni Chapter

3. Mail the Application along with a $25.00 fee to: Sarah Clayton, LSU Atlanta, 2221-D Peachtree Rd NW, # 344, Atlanta, GA 30309.

Here's all the details: Each applicant for the LSU Alumni license plate must submit a Special Interest License Plate application and a $25 manufacturing fee to the Chapter between now and the end of our 2 year period of approval on April 24, 2010. The funds shall be collected by the Chapter and held in a special non-interest bearing account until 1,000 applications have been received. After we receive 1,000 applications for the LSU Alumni license plate, the Chapter shall submit one check to cover all manufacturing fees along with the 1,000 applications for the LSU plate to the Georgia Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division. And, in the unlikely event the Chapter does not reach 1,000 paid applications within the 2 year period of approval, the plate will not be manufactured and the Chapter will return all fees collected to our applicants. Note: License plate numbers will be distributed on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. The first 100 plates (numbers 001 – 100) require an additional charge of $25 (for a total of $50 per plate). If you have any questions, please e-mail our committee chairwoman, Michele Heiger at: mecatl@comcast.net. The chapter would like to thank Michele for a dedicated 18 months of effort to gain approval from the Georgia Department of Revenue to accept applications for the plates. Please also help us spread the word about this opportunity for LSU license plates in Georgia. The faster we receive 1,000 applications, the sooner you can have an LSU plate on your car.

LET'S GEAUX GEORGIA TIGERS!

384 have purchased plates as of May 28, 2009.  We need 1000 applications before State of Georgia will manufacture--please get those applications in NOW.  We have less than a year to do this.  You do not have to wait until your birthday to order.  we still have some numbers from 1-100 available and these are $50.  You can choose your number and if it is not already taken, it is yours.  Any questions, email sarah:  sleeclay@comcast.net

Any updates on the number of people that have signed up?

Just curious. Also, I added a facebook profile (lsu ga plates) and it currently has 97 Atlanta members. I'm guessing some of them were already included in the 225 from 10/01/08 but the more the merrier. :) Geaux Tigers!

Business cards have been printed...

...that people can hand out to friends and folks they see out and about in LSU gear. Also can be placed on windshield wipers or in driver door window of cars showing LSU decals etc.

Email Michele at mecatl@comcast.net and we will figure out how to get you some to hand out, either from a board member who lives/works near you or by mail if you don't live or work near one of us.

EVERYBODY has to help spread the word to get this done! They make great birthday presents for your LSU friends too!

windshield stuff

I hate people who are placing ads or selling anything on my windshield. I just changed it... do people know how much you can spend on a windshield replacement nowadays ? I would want to know if they are happy when finding stuff posted on their cars.

If you have LSU markings on your car...

...then finding a business card stuck in your driver side window or under windshield wiper with LSU contact info would not be viewed in the same way as a flyer for weight loss or Chinese food delivery.

And please explain how putting a piece of paper under a wiper blade damages a windshield? I don't understand that point.

Finally, we cannot afford paid advertising but have devoted enough budget for mailings to the LSUAA Georgia list, for the business cards and for flyers and some other display stuff to have at our events.  Why would you not leave a note (in this case, a card that has the basic information that save a volunteer the time to write a note) on a car with LSU fan markings on it?

We aggressively remind people in our emails and on the web page. We exhort everyone to pass the word.  There aren't as many LSU fans here as other out of state alumni like Auburn, Florida, Clemson who have gotten their plates so it will take all of us helping spread the news for us to reach this goal of 1,000 fans able and willing to pay for a license plate.

Just my opinion as a counterpoint to yours.  Thanks for caring enough to share your view.

License Plates

I carry copies of the license plate application in my car, so does a friend of mine who is not even an LSU fan. Whenever we see a GA car with any LSU stuff on it, we place an application on their windshield. Quite a few have been given out. Had a great time at the North Springs Marta parking lot on New Years Eve...we actually ran out. I'm sick of seeing Gator plates, Alabama plates and Auburn plates...we need to come together to show our Purple pride! I think there are enough LSU fans around here to make our goal. Let's go Tiger fans and get it done!!!!! We painted Atlanta purple on New Years Eve, now it's TIME to shower this place with the LSU plates!!!!!

License Plates as of 8/27/08

208! 20% to our goal....

The faster we get to 1,000 - the faster we all get our plates!! Please tell all of your friends!! GEAUX TIGERS!!

LSU Alumni Magazine

Have we had an article in the LSU Alumni magazine about this? If not, what would it take? If there's interest, I'm willing to engage the magazine for the LSUAAA.

I'm surprised these plates didn't go like wildfire!
