Baton Rouge Chamber Kicks Off “Welcome Back” Campaign

You may have noticed that an unusual banner has appeared on our home page.  The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) has launched the Welcome Back to Baton Rouge workforce recruitment campaign, hoping to attract former Baton Rouge area residents who now live in Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta, back to the Capital Region.

LSU Atlanta Socials

I think we could stand a little more in the social event calendar than just bar room meetings.

Meeting to watch football games is great, but what about the other 9 months of the year.

I really stay busy as most of us do but, I would like to think if I'm available there would be somewhere I could commisserate with like beings!

Several chances coming up to see LSU hoops

Marcus ThorntonThe LSU men's basketball team, currently leading the SEC West at 3-1 in conference play and 15-4 overall, will make several trips to nearby schools in the coming weeks.

It starts Wednesday night with the Tigers in Knoxville to take on Tennessee, followed by a trip to Athens to face Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 4. LSU will also play at Auburn on Saturday, March 7.

Also, join the LSU Atlanta chapter at Buffalo Wild Wings in Alpharetta on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. ET for a view-in of LSU-Arkansas. The Tigers will celebrate the 100th anniversary of LSU Basketball with the game against the Hogs.

Mike A. Tiger: Bowl win sweet for LSU Atlanta
Jordan Jefferson With Jefferson at the helm, LSU is “movin’ on up!”

We Came. We Saw. We Kicked Their Butts. And LSU Atlanta hosted some great times and raised a lot of scholarship dough for the alumni chapter. Life is good. The Chick fil-A Bowl not only produced a much-needed and dominating victory for the LSU football team, it also produced over $2,800 in fundraising for LSU Atlanta. If you did not attend the "Bash Buzz" bash the night before the game, you missed a big time party. The Evil Twins, stars of (tailgating) stage, (internet) screens and (TV news) pictures, agreed to help emcee the throw-down at Engine 11 in Midtown. More than 350 Tiger fans ate and drank as the Twins made merry with the assemblage. The Evil Twins (flanking a well-lubricated "Golden Girl" volunteer from the audience) demonstrate the proper moves to march to the LSU Pregame salute. Kent DeJean (ET1) is a regular at the Les Miles Radio Show - check out the "Gen. Sherman" speech he made at the show that he repeated at our party. Our raffle raised over $800 and we are grateful to the owners of Engine 11 (and Sidebar on game day) for donating 10% of sales to LSU fans for the balance that was raised. Mikey also sends a shout out to Pittypat's Porch and Max Lager's for their support in our Bowl Guide. Turning back for a quick last look at the 2008 football season, Mikey is glad LSU went out with a big win. The SEC did well in bowl season, but not everyone in the conference fared as well as the Tigers. Ramma Jamma, Utes with hammas just beat the hellouttayou! In case you haven't heard the "Goodbye Nick" novelty song that circulated after the Sugar Bowl, it's worth checking out for a grin. LSU's woes in 2008 boiled down to green quarterbacks and a dysfunctional defensive coaching alignment. With a great outing by Jordan Jefferson that hearkened back to great young LSU QB performances by Rohan Davie and Matt Flynn in earlier Peach Bowls, we no longer have an inexperienced and untested signal caller. And Les Miles quietly and effectively assembled a new defensive staff headed by the Vols' former D coordinator John "Chief" Chavis that should be already staking fear into the hearts of SEC foes. Considering the annual Nick Saban "running of the assistants," the coaching carousel that has shaken longtime coaching stalwarts from Tennnessee and Auburn, I wish I had their unemployment check! and the decimation of UGA's talent bank with the loss of Stafford, Moreno and Allen to the NFL, LSU is looking pretty good in the SEC with the fixes made and an "off the chart" good recruiting class coming in. With that, Mike A. Tiger is going to take a nap or too and will only come out for occasional roars when there's big stuff afoot in LSU athletics. LSU Atlanta has lots of interesting events and activities on tap for 2009 - with us and Georgia TAF now fully working together for the P&G, could Atlanta be lining up to be included in the TIGER TOUR of coaches this year? Stay tuned!! And when football season comes around you can count on Mikey to be back with his weekly blog of offbeat humor, photo funnies and marginally respectable pigskin observations. Watch for some exciting developments with our football game view ins! Your Pal, Happy Tiger Mike A. Tiger mike.a.tiger@gmail.com
