You may have noticed that an unusual banner has appeared on our home page. The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) has launched the Welcome Back to Baton Rouge workforce recruitment campaign, hoping to attract former Baton Rouge area residents who now live in Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta, back to the Capital Region.
LSU Atlanta was provided with a generous donation from BRAC in exchange for displaying the banner ad during 2009 to reach interested people in Metro Atlanta.
The project was developed as a direct response to Baton Rouge area employers’ concerns about the lack of qualified workers. The partners include Antares Technology Solutions, Inc., Ascension Economic Development Corporation, Baton Rouge General, IEM, Livingston Economic Development Council, Inc., The Shaw Group Inc., and the West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce.
“For too long, we have watched our young people leave our region for other areas of the country. The Welcome Back to Baton Rouge recruitment campaign is designed to attract that talent back to the Baton Rouge area,” stated Adam Knapp, BRAC’s President and CEO. “We are fortunate to have a healthy regional economy and the availability of high-paying, demanding, stimulating careers in our growing region. That’s why we are proud to launch this project and thankful to our partners for believing in and supporting this effort. This is a great time to live and work in the Baton Rouge area.”
The core message in the advertising campaign is the extensive availability of high-paying Baton Rouge area jobs in such fields as information technology, engineering, medical, and financial services. In addition, the advertising also employs an emotional connection supported with a “come back to family” theme. From the campaign’s website, www.welcomebacktobr.com, potential residents can quickly search the employer partners’ job availabilities, familiarize themselves with the Capital Region through City Guide, research other employment opportunities through BRAC’s membership directory and recent business project announcements, and find other compelling reasons to return to the Baton Rouge area.
The marketing campaign primarily consists of online advertising in the local business journals’ daily update emails in the three targeted markets. Additional advertising includes online ads on the Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and North Houston LSU Alumni websites, and future print advertisements in LSU Magazine in the Spring and Summer 2009 editions.
BRAC also called on current Baton Rouge area residents to send the website’s link to relatives, friends, former co-workers, and others who may have left the area. This “grassroots” assistance would increase the campaign’s exposure and provide a more personal validation of its relevance.
